Grad Lože
Slovenia, Slovenia
Grad Lože, also known as Lož Castle or Leitenburg, is a historic manor in Lož near Stari trg in southwestern Slovenia's Vipava Valley, with origins tracing to a mid-12th-century unfortified estate built by the Counts of Bogen or their ministers, the Knights of Leitenburg.
Passing through families like the Counts of Vovbrk, Sternberg, Patriarchate of Aquileia, Lords of Walsee, Counts of Celje until 1456, and later Habsburg nobles including the Cobenzls who rebuilt it in the 17th century, it became a cultural hub under the cultured Mayer family from around 1800, hosting artists until post-WWII decline as an agricultural school.
Today, this Baroque-style castle overlooking the valley stands as a preserved monument of nearly 1,000 years of noble ownership, now privately restored without defensive features.
