Grad Mokrice Castle Estate in Jesenice na Dolenjskem, Slovenia, stands on a hillside overlooking Gorjanci forests and Bizeljsko vineyards, first mentioned in 1444 atop a Roman-era fortress called Romula noted on the 4th-century Tabula Peutingeriana.

Rebuilt in the 16th century into a Renaissance quadrangle with four protruding towers encircling an arcaded courtyard, it passed through noble families like the von Gagern before WWII German occupation and post-war nationalization.

Today, the restored landmark features a 15th-century Chapel of St. Anna, a 200-year-old English park, an 18-hole golf course, the elegant 1444 Restaurant, and luxury Forrest Hotel accommodations blending medieval heritage with modern hospitality.
