Gradac
Slovenia, Slovenia
Gradac is a village in the Municipality of Metlika in southeastern Slovenia's White Carniola region, near the Croatian border along the Lahinja River, renowned for its well-preserved Gradac Castle first mentioned in 1228 as a stronghold owned by Herbort von Graecz. The moated castle, declared a national cultural heritage site, passed through noble families including the Thurn-Valsassina counts and Gusič barons until 1846, gaining its current classicist form after 19th-century reconstruction amid the scenic river bend. Today, it stands as a key historical landmark in Bela Krajina, drawing visitors to its protected location on the Črnomelj-Metlika road.
