Hollókő Castle is a medieval fortress perched on a hill above the village of Hollókő in northern Hungary.

Built in the 13th century after the Mongol invasion, it was designed to protect the surrounding area and became an important regional stronghold during the Middle Ages. Over the centuries, the castle was expanded by various noble families and played a role in the conflicts between Hungarian and Ottoman forces.

It changed hands several times before gradually losing its military importance and falling into ruin by the early 18th century. The castle overlooks the famous village of Hollókő, which, together with its surroundings, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 for its exceptionally well-preserved traditional rural architecture and way of life.

Today, the restored castle is one of Hungary’s most popular historic attractions, offering exhibitions, panoramic views of the Cserhát Hills, and insights into medieval life and the history of the region.
