Verified Hunyady-kastély

Kéthely, Hungary, Hungary

Hunyady-kastély is a historic manor near Kéthely in Somogy County, southwestern Hungary.

The estate came into the ownership of the Hunyady family in the 18th century, and the castle was built in Baroque style around 1760, later expanded with Neo-Baroque elements in the early 20th century. For many years, the castle served as the center of a large aristocratic estate and was associated with the influential Hunyady family.

During World War II, it functioned as a military hospital and later had various public uses under state ownership. A major fire in 1986 caused severe damage to large parts of the building, and although temporary repairs were made, the castle gradually fell into disuse. The social institution that once operated there eventually closed, leaving the structure vacant.

Today, Hunyady-kastély remains an important example of Hungarian aristocratic architecture and local history. Despite its deteriorated condition, it continues to attract interest for its architectural heritage, historic parkland, and connection to one of the country's notable noble families.
