Kos Manor

Jesenice, Slovenia, Slovenia

Kos Manor in Jesenice, Slovenia, is a well-preserved 16th-century Renaissance manor house built in 1521 by Žiga Dietrichstein, a leaseholder of the Habsburgs and associated with the local ironworks, originally known as the "old Bela Peč Castle" for its coat-of-arms above the balcony. Owned over centuries by noble families like the Khevenhüllers, Eggenbergs, and Trillegkhs before merchant Frančišek Pavel Kos renovated it in neoclassical style in 1821—giving it its current name—it later served as a school until 1915, wartime courthouse, prison, and offices. Since 1985, this cultural monument has housed part of the Upper Sava Museum Jesenice with exhibits on local industrial history, occupation terror from 1941-1945, workers' movements, a preserved Gestapo cell, art gallery, and wedding hall.
