Krumperk Castle
Gorjuša, Slovenia, Slovenia
Krumperk Castle, located in Gorjuša near Domžale in central Slovenia, is a Renaissance-era fortress first documented in 1338 as a possession of the Kreutberg noble family, with its original late-13th-century structure built by the Rabensbergs from nearby Koprivnik. It passed through families like the Rusbachs, who sold it in 1410 to the Zellenpergers as Turn Chraw-perg, then to the Raubers around 1580, who rebuilt it into its current form and held it until their line's extinction, later owned by the Rasps, Thurn und Valsássina counts, Rechbach barons, and finally Stanka Pogačnik until nationalization after World War II. Converted into apartments and a sanatorium post-war, the now-dilapidated castle—overlooking settlements like Dob, Ihan, and Krtina—awaits denationalization amid nearby caves and an equestrian center, inspiring local tales by Ivan Sivec.
