Leányhegy
Szügy, Hungary, Hungary
Leányhegy is a historic hillfort site located just east of the village of Szügy in Nógrád County, northern Hungary.
Rising on a steep, isolated hill, it consists of earthworks, terraces, and defensive embankments that suggest it once served as a fortified settlement or small stronghold. Archaeological finds indicate that the site was used from prehistoric times and remained important during the Árpád era.
Excavations uncovered 12th to 13th century pottery, building materials, and a 14th century spur, suggesting the presence of a fortified structure, possibly including a stone tower. Today, Leányhegy is valued mainly as an archaeological and historical landmark, offering insight into the region’s early settlement and defensive history.
