Muzslatető
Gyöngyös, Hungary, Hungary
Muzslatető is a forested hill above Mátrafüred, a district of Gyöngyös in Hungary’s Mátra Mountains.
Rising to about 485 meters above sea level, it is known for its scenic natural setting and for the remains of an early medieval earthwork fort hidden among the trees. The site contains the remnants of a small fortified settlement, likely built around the 11th century during the early Árpád era. Archaeological investigations have uncovered traces of defensive earthworks.
A ditch, and a timber-and-stone rampart, suggesting that the hill once served a defensive role for the surrounding area. Today, Muzslatető is primarily a hiking destination. Visitors can reach it via marked trails from Mátrafüred and explore both the historic earthwork remains and the peaceful woodland environment. The area is valued for its cultural heritage, natural beauty, and connection to the early history of the Mátra region.
