Orczy Kastély is a historic castle in Gyöngyös, at the foothills of the Mátra Mountains.

Originally built in 1770 as a Baroque hunting lodge by the influential Orczy family, it was later transformed into an elegant Neoclassical palace in the early 19th century. The castle was the residence of the Orczy family, one of the most important noble families in the region, and its members played a significant role in the development of Gyöngyös for many generations.

Since 1957, the building has housed the Mátra Museum, one of northern Hungary’s leading museums. Visitors can explore exhibitions on local history, nature, hunting traditions, and the Orczy family, as well as see a famous 50,000-year-old woolly mammoth skeleton displayed inside the castle. Today, Orczy Kastély is one of Gyöngyös’s most important cultural attractions, combining historic architecture, museum collections, and a picturesque park that makes it a popular destination for visitors to the Mátra region.
