Óvár is the site of a small medieval fortification located in the Mátra Mountains near Gyöngyössolymos in northern Hungary.

Built during the Árpád era, likely between the 11th and 13th centuries, it stood on a hilltop about 570 meters above sea level and was probably associated with the Solymosi branch of the Aba clan. Very little is known about the fortress because it is not mentioned in surviving medieval records and no major archaeological excavations have been carried out.

Researchers believe it may have been abandoned early, possibly because its location was less favorable than nearby strongholds such as Nyesettvár. Today, the castle has completely disappeared, leaving only traces of defensive earthworks, ditches, and embankments. These remains suggest that construction may never have been fully completed.

The site is now mainly of interest to hikers and history enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into Hungary’s early medieval past and scenic views of the surrounding Mátra landscape.
