Ozora Castle, also known as Pipo Castle, is one of Hungary’s finest Renaissance-era castles, located in the village of Ozora.

It was built around 1416 by Filippo Scolari, an Italian-born military leader and trusted advisor to King Sigismund of Hungary, who became known locally as Pipo of Ozora. Unlike many medieval fortresses, the castle was designed as both a residence and a symbol of prestige, reflecting Italian Renaissance influences with its elegant courtyard, spacious halls, and refined architectural style.

Over the centuries, the castle experienced periods of decline, including Ottoman occupation and later conversion into a granary. Extensive restoration work in the late 20th and early 21st centuries helped return it to much of its former appearance. Today, Ozora Castle operates as a museum where visitors can explore furnished historical rooms, a chapel, an armoury, and exhibitions that recreate life in the Hungarian Renaissance period.
