Raka Castle is one of Slovenia's oldest medieval fortresses, located in the village of Raka within Krško municipality, first documented in 1161 and explicitly named Castrum Arch in 1279. Built no later than the late 12th century by the Counts of Bogen and later owned by the Counts of Andechs and Dukes of Spanheim, this quadrangular three-story structure features an eleven-bay northern facade, arcaded courtyard, and classicist stone portal, with Renaissance renovations in 1525 after a 1515 peasant revolt fire. Passing through noble families like the Wernecks, Kajzeljs—who added greenhouses and a crab pond—and Baron Haller von Hallerstein, who refined it in the late 18th century, it served as a WWII outpost, municipal seat, and convent until 1998, now a protected monument amid woodlands.
