Rákóczi-kastély in Felsővadász is a historic castle closely associated with the influential Rákóczi family, one of Hungary’s most important noble dynasties.

The original fortified manor was built in the 16th century and served as both a residence and a defensive stronghold in a period marked by Ottoman incursions. The castle was attacked and burned by Ottoman forces in 1567, but it was later rebuilt and expanded.

Over the centuries it passed to the Meskó and Vay families, who carried out significant renovations, including a major 19th-century transformation that gave the building much of its current Romantic-style appearance. Historically, the castle is linked to the Rákóczi family’s role in Hungarian politics and national history, and local traditions associate it with prominent members of the family.

Today, the castle remains one of the most important landmarks in Felsővadász. Although its original fortifications are no longer visible, the preserved building stands as a reminder of the region’s noble heritage and centuries of Hungarian history.
