Rezi Castle
Rezi, Hungary, Hungary
Rezi Castle is a medieval hilltop fortress located near the village of Rezi in western Hungary, on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Keszthely Plateau.
Built in the late 13th century, it occupied a strategic position that allowed its owners to control the surrounding area and important travel routes. Throughout the Middle Ages, the castle changed hands several times among noble families and the Hungarian crown.
Its defenses were strengthened during the Ottoman era, but after being attacked and burned by Ottoman forces in 1589, it fell into ruin and gradually lost its military importance. Today, the partially restored ruins are a popular historical and hiking destination. Visitors can explore the remains of the fortress, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding hills and forests, and learn about an important chapter of Hungary’s medieval history.
