Solymár Castle is a medieval hilltop fortress located in the village of Solymár near Budapest.

Built in the mid-14th century by the Lackfi family, it served as both a noble residence and a defensive stronghold close to the royal center of Buda. The castle changed hands several times among Hungary’s leading noble families and was associated with important historical figures such as János Hunyadi and John Corvinus.

It suffered serious damage during the Ottoman period following the Battle of Mohács in 1526 and was abandoned after the fall of Buda in 1541. Over the centuries, the ruins deteriorated, but archaeological excavations and restoration work have preserved significant parts of the site. A reconstructed wooden tower and remaining stone walls help visitors imagine the castle’s original appearance.
