The Szarvasi Arborétum in Szarvas, Hungary, was established by the Bolza family, who were of Italian origin and began developing the estate in the late 18th and 19th centuries.
It is the largest arboretum in Hungary, covering about 82 hectares with 65 hectares accessible to visitors. The arboretum contains around 1,600 tree and shrub species, including many rare deciduous plants and diverse collections such as pine species and herb gardens. It supports a variety of wildlife including birds and insects, and features 200-year-old oaks and 150-year-old mammoth pines.
The garden functions both as a scientific research and educational center and a popular tourist destination with walking trails, events, a café, and a gift shop. Since 1940, it has been state-owned and is now part of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, continuing to evolve as a major site for plant conservation and nature appreciation.
