Széchenyi-Kastély
Barcs, Hungary, Hungary
Széchenyi-Kastély is a historic mansion located in Somogytarnóca, a district of Barcs in southwestern Hungary.
The castle was built around 1873 for the Széchenyi family, descendants of one of Hungary’s most influential noble families, and was designed by architect Antal Wéber in an eclectic style with romantic and Renaissance-inspired elements. The mansion was once surrounded by a large landscaped park and housed valuable artworks, furniture, porcelain collections, and family treasures.
It remained the residence of the Széchenyi family until World War II, after which it was nationalized and used for public purposes. Today, the castle is recognized as a protected historic monument, but its condition has deteriorated significantly over the years. Despite its decline, it remains an important reminder of the region’s noble heritage and the historical presence of the Széchenyi family in Somogy County.
