Szigliget is a picturesque village on the northern shore of Lake Balaton in western Hungary, surrounded by volcanic hills and renowned for its beautiful natural scenery.

Once an island in the lake, it became connected to the mainland in the 19th century and has a history dating back to prehistoric times, with Celtic, Roman, and Avar archaeological remains found in the area. The village is best known for Szigliget Castle, a medieval fortress built in the 13th century on a hill overlooking Lake Balaton.

The castle was an important defensive stronghold and is famous for never having been conquered by the Ottoman Empire. Today, its restored ruins offer some of the finest panoramic views of the lake and surrounding countryside. Szigliget is also known for its historic atmosphere, old village architecture, vineyards, wine cellars, and peaceful setting.
